My first year at Carter Jonas and working in the Infrastructures division has been a very enjoyable experience. I have been given the necessary support to advance my studies, while simultaneously working on several schemes with experienced professionals. The assistance and encouragement I have received on a daily basis has given me the best possible start to my career here at Carter Jonas, and I would recommend Carter Jonas to anyone looking to start their career as a surveyor.
I joined Carter Jonas in 2017 as an Apprentice within the Valuation team in Leeds. My Apprenticeship involves working full-time alongside studying a degree in Real Estate Management at University College of Estate Management. Throughout my time at Carter Jonas I have been involved in numerous commercial and residential valuations which are required by a diverse range of clients for several purposes. This practical experience has been beneficial for both by University studies and for the APC process going forward. The apprenticeship has allowed me to develop key skills such as communication and negotiation by being part of real life scenarios in my day-to-day role.
The accommodating nature of Carter Jonas allowed me to feel welcomed within my first year. Given the early stage of my career development, this is especially important. Day to day tasks varied from working with senior staff on residential valuations and compensation claims. Upon completion of my Real Estate Management Masters course, I am looking forward to the increased responsibility that will come with full time employment at Carter Jonas. The relationships I have built throughout the past year as a part time employee have improved my professional team working skills, industry knowledge and social connections. I recommend Carter Jonas to any young real estate student or professional.
My first 18 months as a Graduate Commercial Surveyor at Carter Jonas has been absolutely fantastic. Everyone has been very supportive in my APC journey and the guidance and expertise that I have received from my colleagues so far has been invaluable. Coming from a predominantly residential background, I have developed my knowledge and experience in the commercial sector, particularly in agency and lease consultancy, and I look forward to gaining more on-the-job training to help pass my APC.
My first year with Carter Jonas has been fast paced, hugely educational but, most importantly enjoyable. The APC support is ever increasing and the more you put into your APC the more you get out. I have worked predominantly on the HS2 contract which has allowed me to improve my communication and professionalism hugely through frequent stakeholder meetings and value negotiations amongst a range of other interesting tasks. The role has allowed me to increase my confidence and is driving me to achieve more all of the time, but support is always there when I need it.
I initially started working at Carter Jonas in a Work Experience position. During this time, I received excellent support and training and given the opportunity to stay on, in a full-time position as a Graduate. I have worked within a variety teams throughout my time at Carter Jonas including Valuation, Planning and Development and Commercial Agency. I am continuously supported throughout my APC studies, as well as receiving invaluable guidance day-to-day from my colleagues in the Leeds office. I have found Carter Jonas a very enjoyable place to work and would recommend Carter Jonas to any graduate.
